Clinical reasoning in canine vestibular syndrome: Which presenting factors are important?

Background: Although the use of clinical reasoning has been evaluated for several neurological presentations, this approach not yet investigated dogs with vestibular syndrome. Methods: Two hundred and thirty-nine presenting syndrome were included in retrospective study. Univariate analysis variables (clinical history, signalment, presentation examination findings) was performed. Variables p < 0.3 selected logistic regression. Results: Ninety-five percent represented by eight conditions: idiopathic disease (n = 78 dogs), otitis media interna 54), meningoencephalitis unknown origin 35), brain neoplasia 26), ischaemic infarct 25), intracranial empyema 4), metronidazole toxicity 3) affecting middle ear 3).
